Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Askr (“Askr”, “we”) collects when you use Askr, why, and the choices you have. We are the data controller for the information described here. If you have questions, contact us at hello@askr.uk.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, used to sign you in. We don’t use passwords.
- Profile: the name, role, organisation, industry, location, experience, goals, bio and optional photo you choose to add. Advisors also add topics, availability and session prices.
- What you do on Askr: requests you send or receive, answers, ratings and reviews, community questions and answers, saved people, blocks, reports, credits and notifications.
- Links you submit for rewards, such as a TikTok post.
- Technical information: basic logs (such as IP address, browser and times of requests) kept by our hosting providers for security and reliability.
How we use it
- To run Askr: sign you in, show your profile, deliver requests and answers, and keep your credits and reputation up to date. (Legal basis: performing our contract with you.)
- To keep Askr safe: prevent spam and abuse, review reports, and enforce our guidelines. (Legal basis: our legitimate interests in a safe service.)
- To improve Askr, using aggregated statistics such as how many requests are answered. (Legal basis: legitimate interests.)
- To send emails you need, such as sign-in links. We don’t send marketing emails without your consent.
We don’t sell your information and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Who can see what
- Other members can see your profile (not your email address).
- A request is visible only to you and the person you sent it to.
- Written reviews marked helpful appear on the advisor’s profile with your first name and initial. Critical feedback is visible only to that advisor.
- Community questions and answers are visible to signed-in members, and helpful answers may appear in the Answers library.
Service providers
We use Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in London), Vercel (website hosting and visitor statistics), Resend (sending emails, from Ireland) and Cloudflare (domain and email forwarding) to run Askr. They process information only on our instructions. Where information is processed outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember an invite link you followed. We count page visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or identify you. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, so we don’t ask for cookie consent.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile and everything linked to it are deleted immediately. Hosting providers’ logs and backups are removed on their normal cycles, usually within 30 days.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your information, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy. You can edit your profile or delete your account at any time from your Profile page. For anything else, contact us at hello@askr.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Age
Askr is for people aged 16 and over.
Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we’ll tell you on Askr before they take effect.
